CBSE Board Exam: CBSE Board Exams to be Conducted Twice a Year

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) examination for Class 12 students is scheduled by the Government of India to begin in June 2026. This is in accordance with the National Curriculum Framework for School Education’s recommendation that board exams be held twice a year.

An examination for the CBSE board is currently taken in February or March by a Class 12 student. Students can choose to take “supplementary exams” in July to retake one topic if they underperformed in the initial exam, which is announced in May. It is also possible for students to take “supplementary exams” if they have not passed their papers and their results have been classified as “compartment.” 15th July was the date of this year’s “supplementary exams” for Class 12.

The Education Ministry has requested that the CBSE create a plan for conducting two board exams annually, starting in 2026, in accordance with the new National Education Policy 2020.

The administration is still debating whether or not to implement a two-board exam system, but one possibility is for students to take additional examinations in June. Class 12 students would have the opportunity to retake their tests in any or all courses in June as an alternative to the existing system, which requires them to take “supplementary exams” for “improvement of performance” in just one subject.

Under this approach, CBSE will need about 15 days to administer the second round of exams and one month to announce the results. Thus, in August, the results of the second board exam will be released.

The government is considering a number of things, including the strain on instructors due to evaluations and the scheduling of the second board test and other required admission exams for student . The first round of the proposed two-board test system cannot start any earlier than February because schools are also situated in snowbound locations.

At most, students may choose to take two or three courses in the second board examination, according to current government expectations. Not all students will choose to take all of the papers. In a situation like this, the second exam’s evaluation load is probably between 4 and 5% of the first exam’s. When it comes to “difficult” papers, the CBSE may initially provide first-year students the chance to take the June second exam.
