CBSE’s Initiative To Promote Skill Education in Schools

In order to achieve better results, shaping the educational system in India becomes a major area of responsibility for the Central Board of Secondary Education for the all-round development of the students. CBSE aims to fill the gap between academic knowledge and the real world of application. Now, skill development along with formal academics is found to be imperative. Hence, CBSE initiated a wide range of efforts to upgrade the skill sets of the students of Classes 6th to 12th.

CBSE has also developed a portal, www.cbseacademic.nic.in/skill-education.html, for registration and certification of students who have opted for skill modules. The skill subjects offered by CBSE to the students are mapped to specific NSQF levels that match a specific job role and the required number of study hours. Hence it is advisable to the students that they should not change their skill subjects in classes 10th and 12th or opt for the new skill subjects in classes 9th and 11th. It has been noted that the affiliated schools do not have any need to grant any separate permission from CBSE or pay any fee to CBSE for introducing skill modules or skill subjects at any level. The school shall fill in the details in the OASIS form and provide the requisite details.

As per the official notification of CBSE, it has been stated that to implement the NEP and NCF-SE orders effectively, all the board-affiliated schools must establish a Composite Skill Lab with all the necessary equipment within 3 years. Moreover, detailed information regarding it will be announced by CBSE soon.

Remember for Class 10th, if a student fails in any one of the three elective subjects, then it will be replaced by the skill subject that was offered as a skill, and the result will be calculated accordingly. Also, if a student passes and has studied a skill subject that was offered as an additional, then the sum of the best five will be considered for the calculation of the result.
