On the occasion of Hindi Journalism Day, the committee of Delhi University that handles academic matters gave approval for starting a Master’s degree programme in Hindi journalism. The course will begin in the 2025-26 academic year, according to committee members who spoke to the PTI news agency.

Hindi Journalism Day is celebrated every year on May 30th. This day remembers the first Hindi newspaper called “Udant Martand” that was published in 1826. The day also highlights how important journalism is as the fourth pillar of democracy, along with the government, courts, and legislature.

The new Master’s program will be run by the Hindi Department, which is part of the Arts Faculty. The course follows the rules of Delhi University for postgraduate programs and fits with the university’s goal of offering education in multiple subjects and local languages.

However, the program still needs final approval from the Academic Council before it can actually start.

According to the PTI report, committee members also shared that an English Master’s program in Journalism will be offered by the English Department. This English course is expected to start in the 2026-27 academic year, which will give students more options for studying media and journalism at Delhi University.

The committee met on Friday to discuss and approve course outlines for several undergraduate and postgraduate programs. These included the seventh and eighth semester courses for Bachelor’s degrees in education, Hindustani music (both regular and honours), and geography. All these courses follow the university’s Undergraduate Curriculum Framework.

The committee also reviewed and updated course outlines for the programs of Master’s in philosophy, economics, geography, sociology, political science, and mathematics to make sure they follow the new curriculum structure. The committee had earlier met on May 2, 6, and 8 to discuss various changes to the course plan. Many of these changes have already been approved by the Academic and Executive Councils of the University, even though some people disagreed with them.
