Tata Teleservices Hit with Rs. 3.81 Cr Penalty for Subscriber Verification Lapse!
The Department of Telecommunications, Maharashtra Licensed Service Area (LSA) has levied Rs. 3.81 Cr Penalty on Tata Teleservices (Maharashtra) Limited for alleged violation of subscriber verification norms. A penalty of Rs. 34,028,600/- was levied for the period from April 2007 to April 2012, and Rs. 4,100,000/- for March 2010.
In terms of the License Agreement, the Company is required to ensure adequate verification of customers before enrolling them as subscribers and comply with the instructions issued by DoT in this regard. The penalty of Rs. 3,40,28,600/- & Rs. 41,00,000/- is imposed for alleged failure to comply with the subscriber verification norms for period from April-2007 to April-2012 and March 2010, respectively in Maharashtra LSA.
The Company is reviewing the Demands and evaluating the next steps in this matter.
