The deferred payment mechanism under customs duty allows the eligible importers to defer import duty payment, meaning they can pay the duty later. It follows the principle of ‘Clear first-Pay later.’

So if you are an eligible importer who uses the deferred duty mechanism for customs duty, then you should know that today is the last day for Deferred Payment of customs duty without any extra penalty.

If you have bills of Entry that were returned for payment from August 16, 2025, to August 31, 2025, then September 1, 2025, i.e., today, is the last day for Deferred Payment of customs duty. If you miss this deadline, you will have to pay interest for the late payment.
