Aadhaar-GST Multi Crore Bogus Billing Scam discovered in Gujarat
Gujarat State Goods and Services Tax (GSGST) reported that three people were involved in fake billing of Goods and Services Tax (GST). During searches at 25 Aadhaar facilitation centres last week, a total of 2,725 Aadhaar cards and their associated mobile numbers were discovered to have been tampered with.
The new phone numbers that were entered were utilised by the fraudsters to register for GST using Aadhaar cards.
Bhavnagar Police nabbed three people on Tuesday for tricking Aadhaar card users into visiting centres where the mobile number associated with their Aadhaar identification will be changed.
“They were called to the Aadhaar centre at the Bank of Baroda branch near Virani Circle in Bhavnagar and to the Common Services Centre near Chavdi Road in Bhavnagar. Their IDs were utilised to get fake GST registrations after their Aadhaar data was tampered with”, according to the FIR.
In addition, one of the three gave needy people new phone numbers and told them they could participate in government programmes. He stated that he will offer Rs 700 to each person whose mobile number was changed.
According to the investigators, the organisation paid each Aadhaar cardholder Rs 1,000 and pocketed Rs 300 as commission. Aadhaar card holders received a Rs 700 payout. SGST officials are still determining the extent of the fraud and evasion in this case.
Gujarat government officials recently reported the Aadhaar Scam. It was stated that 1500 cards were fraudulently exploited to generate bogus GST numbers. Gujarat, according to sources from the past and present, has been a hotspot for bogus GST creations.
