The accused inspector has been recognised as Sandeep Khalate, working with the GST department in Nodal-7, Mazgaon. According to the bureau, the complainant was asked for Rs 10,000 to continue the processing of his application seeking GST registration.
The complainant was not ready to pay this unfair bribery amount; consequently, he approached the Anti-Corruption Bureau (ACB) Worli unit for help and registered a complaint against the accused.
Realising the seriousness of the case, the ACB subsequently planned a trap to catch the accused red-handed while accepting the bribery amount of Rs 10,000. The bureau was successful in its planning, and the accused has been arrested.
