Arijit Singh was honoured with the Padma Shri, India's fourth-highest civilian award, in 2025.
The announcement has left the entertainment industry and audiences in shock. He is known for popular songs like Tum Hi Ho, Channa Mereya, and many others. Arijit has given his soulful voice to countless hit tracks over the years.
On January 27, 2026, he shared a post on Instagram where he expressed gratitude to his listeners for their constant love and support. He wrote, "Hello, Happy New Year to all. I want to thank you all for the love you’ve given me throughout these years as listeners. I am happy to share that I will no longer be taking on new playback singing assignments. I am calling it off. It has been a wonderful journey."
His last song as a playback singer was "Matrubhoomi", a patriotic song from Salman Khan’s upcoming film Battle of Galwan. It was released during Republic Day week and is a tribute to India’s brave soldiers. With this song, Arijit Singh is believed to have ended his long and successful career as a playback singer.
