Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax arrested in Bribery Case; Threw Phones into Sabarmati River to help Colleague: CBI The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has arrested then Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax, Ahmedabad(Gujarat) in an ongoing investigation of a case related to bribery. On the request of the Gujarat government, CBI registered the current case against the Additional Commissioner, Income Tax, Ahmedabad on October 12, 2022, and a further notification from the Government of India linked to bribery of Rs.30 lakh. It was alleged that then Assistant Commissioner of Income Tax had facilitated the escape of said Additional Commissioner from his office by helping, creating a ruckus during trap proceedings on 04.10.2022 laid by ACB of Gujarat State. It was further claimed that while evading the State ACB, the then Additional Commissioner of Income Tax (Central Range-I), Ahmedabad handed over two mobile handsets to said Assistant Commissioner. On the orders of the abovementioned Additional Commissioner of Income Tax, the then Assistant Commissioner allegedly disposed of the two mobile devices by throwing them in the Sabarmati River. CBI has recovered both the mobiles(including one phone of Real Me make) from the Sabarmati River with the help of divers and other agencies using diving equipment & Remotely Operated Vehicle equipped with SONAR technology. The arrested accused was produced before the CBI Special Court, Ahmedabad and was remanded Police Custody till 17.04.2023.
