Ayodhya's Ram Janmabhoomi Trust paid Rs.400 Crore Tax in Last 5 Years amid Surge In Religious Tourism, Says Trust Secretary
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust has paid the government approximately Rs 400 crore in taxes over the last five years, according to trust secretary Champat Rai said on Sunday. He stated that the amount was paid between February 5, 2020 and February 5, 2025.
He stated that Rs.270 crore of the whole amount was paid as Goods and Services Tax (GST), with Rs.130 crore paid under other tax categories.
Rai stated that Ayodhya has seen a huge increase in the number of devotees and tourists, resulting in greater job prospects for residents. He also stated that during the Maha Kumbh, 1.26 crore devotees visited Ayodhya.
In the previous year, Ayodhya witnessed 16 crore tourists, including 5 crore visiting the Ram Temple.
The Shri Ram Janmabhoomi Teerth Kshetra Trust was established in 2020 to oversee the construction of the Ram Mandir at Ayodhya, following the Supreme Court's 2019 decision that cleared the way for the temple's construction.
On January 22, 2024, Prime Minister Narendra Modi presided over the consecration (Pran Pratishtha) of the Ram Mandir. Religious leaders, politicians, and dignitaries from all around India attended the occasion.
The temple, built on the spot believed to be Lord Ram's birthplace, has since become a prominent religious and cultural landmark, attracting millions of devotees.
According to Rai, authorities from the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) audit the trust's financial records on a regular basis.
