Banker involved in drug trade to boost income held with 1.7kg heroin
A 22-year-old boy named Munish, working in the loan department of a private bank was arrested for drug peddling by the Ludhiana unit of Special Task Force (STF). The STF seized 1.72 kg heroin from Munish Sharma which he had obtained from Amritsar.
He belonged to Amritsar but had been living in Ludhiana for the past few years and worked in a private bank on Pakhowal Road.
Ludhiana unit of STF, Inspector Harbans Singh (In-charge), said the force received a tip-off that the accused was commuting from Lohara village towards Sidhar Nagar with drugs on his motorcycle. The STF team was ready to establish a checkpost near the Lohara bridge on the canal to stop the accused. The STF recovered heroin from his bag on frisking.
During interrogation, the accused confessed that to earn easy money, he was involved in drug peddling. Before he shifted to Ludhiana, Munish had come in contact with some smugglers in Amritsar, after that he started drug peddling in Ludhiana. Munish used to procure heroin from Amritsar and used to sell it in Ludhiana.
A case has been registered against him under the NDPS Act.
Earlier, the STF also arrested a che (PO) with 232g of heroin. The accused was identified as Deepak Kumar (39) of Sundar Nagar of Lohara. The accused was unemployed and started drug peddling for a living.
According to Inspector Harbans Singh, the accused has a murder case, a murder bid case, and at least six cases of drug peddling on him. He was declared a PO in a drug peddling case in 2019.
