Bharti Airtel enters into a joint venture with Hughes for satellite broadband services in India
Bharti Airtel and Hughes Communications India have formed a joint venture to provide satellite broadband services in India.
The joint venture has been formed after the agreement, which was announced in May 2019, gained all necessary clearances, including those from the National Company Law Tribunal (NCLT) and the Department of Telecom (Government of India).
Both firms' combined India Very Small Aperture Terminal (VSAT) activities will provide commercial and government customers with a comprehensive variety of satellite and hybrid network solutions.
"With the combined capabilities of Airtel and Hughes, consumers will receive access to next generation satellite connectivity supported by proven enterprise grade security and service support," said Ajay Chitkara, director and chief executive officer, Airtel Business.
Hughes Network Systems, LLC (HUGHES), the world's top provider of broadband satellite networks and services, owns a majority stake in HCIPL.
