Huge GST Evasion Found in Bengaluru; Authorities Seize 75 Vehicles
The Enforcement Wing (South Zone) of the Commercial Taxes Department in Bengaluru has carried out raids at more than 20 locations in the central business district. As per the department, it investigated shops in Chickpet, Avenue Road, Cottonpet, Balepet, and B V K Iyengar Road. The investigation was focused on traders involved in selling electronics goods, clothes, handicrafts and automobiles.
The department has seized over 75 goods vehicles that were involved in tax evasion. It found that many traders were selling their products without giving bills to customers, which is against tax rules. Penalties were imposed on these traders under the GST ACT. The department also imposed penalties on a group of traders who were running unregistered warehouses and were doing illegal activities without disclosing them to the department.
Not only this, the investigation also uncovered that many traders were moving goods like electrical and electronic items, textiles, garments, automobiles, and handicrafts into Karnataka without any valid invoicing, and they were selling these goods in the state. This illegal activity has caused a huge revenue loss to the government. The investigation also revealed a huge tax evasion network involving goods amounting to crores of rupees.
Additionally, officials have found more tax evasion cases connected to iron and steel, including TMT goods that are used in construction activities and metal scrap used to manufacture them.
