CA Association seek CBI probe against the Gurgaon CGST officials for GST Refund Fraud Case

On Friday, members of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) held a ‘bhrashtachar mukti havan’ (anti-corruption havan) in front of the CGST headquarters in Gurgaon to demand legal action against the officials engaged in the multi-crore input tax credit fraud. Two city-based CAs were arrested in the case last week.

The CAs are requesting that the CBI investigate the scam, that a FIR be filed against the CGST officers implicated, and that they be arrested immediately. So far, the Centre has suspended two CGST (Gurgaon) employees and transferred three others, including the commissioner. Protesters claimed that suspension was insufficient and that the officials should be arrested instead.

CA Naveen Garg, said they want the government to provide the CA profession justice and undertake a CBI investigation. “There is a lot of evidence that can show who is guilty and how the government treasury was robbed,” Garg added. CA Rajiv Dagar stated that they performed a “havan” at the CGST office in order for good sense to prevail and “bad souls of corruption” to escape.

An anonymous complaint was lodged with the CGST on May 2 about bogus ITC claims totaling roughly Rs.15 crore. On May 4, the CGST anti-evasion wing launched an investigation.
