CA Gives Suggestions to Bring Back Three-Year Articleship
The Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) reviews its curriculum regularly to ensure that the chartered accountancy course stays updated with global development.
During a recent past president's meet held in Kochi, a chartered accountant shared some suggestions to improve the CA course. These are as follows:
- Bringing Back the 3-Year Articleship: The CA has suggested reintroducing the three-year CA articleship, saying that it will improve the quality of training.
- Direct Entry Scheme: The CA proposed to introduce a direct entry scheme for students who have completed their B.Com. This would help such students to directly join the articleship training.
- Corporate Laws and Costing: Another recommendation was to bring back Corporate Laws and Costing as regular written exam papers instead of keeping them as online exams.
- Restriction of Private Equity: The CA suggested that private equity should not be permitted, as it could affect the independence of work.
- Globalization of CA Profession: It was suggested that the profession should be further globalised so that more countries recognise the Indian CA qualification through Mutual Recognition Agreements (MRAs).
- Articleship After Clearing Any One Group in Intermediate: The CA suggested that the students must be allowed to join the articleship right after clearing either one of the groups in Intermediate.
- Introducing ICAI Tech SPV: It was suggested that there should be an ICAI Tech SPV under Section 8 of the Companies Act to provide audit tools and training in advanced technologies for members.
ICAI reviews the curriculum at periodic intervals to keep the CA Course in tune with the global developments.
