CA Highlights Portal Glitches, Urges Tax Dept to Extend ITR and TAR Due Date Beyond September 15 A chartered accountant named CA Harshit Goyal has recently shared a post on Platform 'X' tagging the Income Tax Department, in which he posted a live video of the income tax portal while filing the Income Tax Return (ITR), where the portal was not accepting commands, instead showing, "It seems there is a network issue currently. Please navigate to AIS again, or try again after some time." On this, he said, "Isko bhi jhuth kehdo tum." Basically, the CA is trying to show the Income Tax Department that the requests recently approached to them regarding the extension of the Income Tax Return (ITR) due date are not fake; taxpayers are genuinely facing several difficulties while filing their returns, like glitches in the income tax portal. Other than glitches in the portal, there are several other reasons why the tax department must extend the due date for ITR filing, like delays in utilities and return form availability, mismatches between Form 26AS and AIS, the changed format of reporting for non-corporate entities, the timing of the festival season, the extension of the due date for non-audit cases, shortened time for audit work, overlap with other compliances, etc. Because of these reasons, taxpayers are facing difficulties in timely filing their returns. Citing these reasons, the chartered accountant (CA) urged the tax department to further extend the due date for filing the Income Tax Return (ITR) and Tax Audit Report (TAR) beyond September 15, 2025.
