CAs to play important role in social audit as well: ICAI’s Vice President

The Northern India Regional Council (NIRC) of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) hosted a two-day orientation session at Parwanoo, near Chandigarh, on Wednesday.

During a press conference to discuss recent ICAI developments, Aniket Talati, vice-president (VP) ICAI, emphasised that “social audit is an excellent instrument for charatered accountants. In its effort, “social stock exchange (SSE),” the ICAI is collaborating with the Securities and Exchange Board of India (SEBI) and is now finalising the code of conduct for social auditors who would work under the SSE’s regulatory framework and conduct social audits.

“We’ve also been asked to put together a course syllabus for social auditor certification.” In each of the 15 sectors indicated in SEBI’s technical report on SSE, we are striving to build a framework for social audit and social audit standards. “The ICAI also intends to provide a framework for SSE as well as area-specific social audit criteria,” Aniket Talati added.
