To All Pr. Chief Commissioner of Income Tax

Sub: –Efforts towards disposal of appeals pending for more than 3 years and 5 years with CIT(A). –reg. Ref: Member ‘s D.O.  F.No. 279/Misc/M-73/2018 dated 31st May, 2019 (F/X). Your kind attention is invited to the above subject wherein it was requested That pending appeals of more than 3 &5 years may be disposed of on priority. 2. In this regard as per data provided by ITBA (copy enclosed), it is noticed that out of opening balance of 31325 of appeals pending for 5 years and more, only 7597 appeals have been disposed of till 30.1 1.2019. 3 . Further, I have been directed to communicate that all the CsIT(A) in respective regions be directed that all such appeals pending for more than 5 years as on 1st April, 2019 must be disposed off without fail by 31st March, 2020. If necessary, redistribution of appeals within the region may also be done to ensure disposal by the above date. 4 . This issues with the approval of Chairman CBDT.
