CBDT Releases FAQ on Tax Amendment Bill 2026

The Taxation And Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 was introduced in the Lok Sabha by Union Finance Minister Nirmala Sitharaman on August 4, 2026. The Bill aims to encourage investment, support manufacturing, improve tax certainty, and make doing business easier. It replaces the Income-tax (Amendment) Ordinance, 2026, issued in June 2026, and proposes changes to the Income-tax Act, 2025, the Finance Act, 2026, and the Payment And Settlement Systems Act, 2007.
The Central Board of Direct Taxes (CBDT) has issued a comprehensive Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ) document after the introduction of Taxation and Other Laws (Amendment) Bill, 2026 in the Lok Sabha on Tuesday.
The FAQ has been issued as part of CBDT’s ongoing efforts to enhance taxpayer awareness and to enable people to better understand the changes proposed in the Bill. It gives taxpayers and other stakeholders a clear and simple description in plain language of the principal amendments.
