CBI arrested a top GST Intelligence Officer for accepting bribe of Rs.60 lakh
Officials stated on Sunday that the CBI had detained a top intelligence officer working at the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in Ghaziabad for allegedly accepting a bribe of Rs.60 lakh.
They claimed a businessman had reported to the CBI about an alleged demand of Rs.1 crore from the officer in exchange for showing favour to his father in a pending investigation against him.
While the government worker was requesting and collecting money to bring help to a businessman, Mohit Dhankar, a Senior Intelligence Officer with the DGGI, was detained along with a civilian, Rakesh Sharma.
"It was further alleged that the accused demanded a bribe of Rs.1 crore from private individuals/touts in exchange for displaying official favour to the complainant's father in a matter before the DGGI, Ghaziabad," stated CBI Spokesperson RC Joshi.
He said that the agency set up a trap and caught Rakesh Sharma, a private individual, collecting a bribe of Rs.60 lakh as the first instalment on behalf of a public worker.
Dhankar was apprehended afterwards, according to the officials. "Today, searches are being performed at the accused's residence," Joshi said.
