CBI arrests 2 DGFT Officers and MD of Private Company in a Bribery Case
The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has arrested a Joint Director General of Foreign Trade, Visakhapatnam; a Section Head working in the office of JDGFT and Managing Director of private company based at Hyderabad in a bribery case.
A lawsuit was filed against a Joint Director General of Foreign Trade in Visakhapatnam; a Section Head working in the office of the JDGFT at the Regional Authority of the DGFT in Visakhapatnam (Andhra Pradesh); and the Managing Director of a private firm in Hyderabad.
It was stated that the aforementioned public workers demanded and collected large sums of payments from Consultants in exchange for granting new Import-Export Certificates, renewing them, and obtaining other relevant licences through Consultants/conduits.
The CBI set a trap. The Joint Director General of Foreign Trade, Visakhapatnam, was nabbed for asking and collecting a bribe of Rs.4 lakh from the Managing Director of a private firm situated in Hyderabad, and the Section Head working in the JDGFT's office for demanding and collecting a bribe of Rs.50,000 from the Managing Director of a private company based in Hyderabad. The briber provider (the MD of the aforementioned private firm) was also detained.
Searches were undertaken at the accused's homes, including in Visakhapatnam, Hyderabad, and Bangalore, resulting in the seizure of damning papers.
All of the arrested suspects were brought before the Court of the Principal Special Judge for CBI Cases in Visakhapatnam today and were remanded in judicial custody until September 18, 2023
