CBI Arrests GST Intelligence Officer in Bribery Case of Rs.60 Lakh
The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) apprehended a senior intelligence officer from the Directorate General of GST Intelligence (DGGI) in Ghaziabad, Uttar Pradesh, while collecting a bribe of Rs.60 lakh, officials said.
On Monday, the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) searched multiple sites and discovered Rs.28 lakh in cash and damning documents.
“A amount of Rs.28 lakh (approximately) was recovered during searches at the premises of Senior Intelligence Officer. Incriminating documents were also discovered during the searches,” the officer claimed.
While the government worker was requesting and collecting money to bring help to a businessman, Mohit Dhankar, a Senior Intelligence Officer with the DGGI, was detained along with a civilian, Rakesh Sharma.
The CBI has filed a complaint against the accused, alleging that he demanded bribes. The accused was also accused of demanding a bribe of Rs.1 crore from private individuals/touts in exchange for demonstrating official favour to the complainant’s father in a case at DGGI, Ghaziabad.
A private person who took the bribe on behalf of a public officer was detained on the spot and is being brought before the Competent Court in Delhi today. It should also be noted that the arrest of the Senior Intelligence Officer has been postponed due to his medical condition, and a decision will be made in this regard based on his medical state.
The agency set up a trap and nabbed the individual for collecting a bribe of Rs.60 lakh as a first instalment on behalf of Dhankar, who was later apprehended.
The inquiry is still ongoing, and other suspects are being investigated as well.
