The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a Branch Manager and a Field Officer of Punjab National Bank of Garhmukteshwar Branch, Hapur (UP) on demanding and accepting a bribe of Rs.20,000 from the complainant in connection with the approval of a loan.

Based on a complaint, a case was filed against the aforementioned accused. The complainant allegedly sought a KVIC loan under the PMEGP plan in order to buy swing machines.

The loan mentioned above was supposed to have been approved by the bank; however, the Branch Manager and Field Officer in question allegedly sought a bribe or commission in order to release the Rs.2,00,000 loan amount.

Additionally, it was claimed that the accused informed the complainant that a loan of Rs. 4,00,000 rather than Rs. 2,00,000 would be approved, and in exchange, they requested a bribe of Rs. 100,000 @rate 25% of the loan amount.

The CBI set up a trap, and the accused Field Officer was apprehended while taking excessive advantage of the situation and accepting a bribe of Rs. 20,000 (the first instalment) on behalf of the other accused. Also detained was the aforementioned Branch Manager.

In this regard, searches were carried out at the accused’s locations in Meerut and Hapur (UP).

The offender who has been apprehended will appear before the Ghaziabad (UP) Court of Special Judge in CBI cases.
