CBI arrests State GST officer for demanding, accepting bribe
The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) has arrested a State Taxes Officer, Circle Kathua (J&K) for demanding and accepting bribe of Rs.13,000/- from the Complainant.
A complaint was filed against the accused, who was suspected of requesting a bribe. It was claimed that the Complainant had filed applications with the State GST office, Circle Kathua, for a reimbursement of excess balances in his electronic cash ledger and for GST registration for his new company. It was also claimed that the State Taxes Officer, Circle Kathua, wanted a bribe of Rs. 15,000/- from the complainant in order to handle his refund claim and the GST registration case. The bribe was later bargained to Rs. 13,000/-.
The CBI set a trap for the State Taxes Officer, who demanded and accepted a bribe of Rs. 13,000/- from the complainant. Searches are being done at the accused's offices and residences in Kathua, Jammu, and Samba.
