CBI Arrests Superintendent and CGST Inspector in a Bribery Case

The Central Bureau of Investigation(CBI) has detained a Superintendent and an Inspector from the CGST in Port Blair (Andaman and Nicobar Islands), In a bribery case.

On the charges of seeking a bribe of Rs.20,000/- from the Complainant for completing his GST registration, a case was filed against a Superintendent and an Inspector, both of the CGST, Port Blair (Andaman & Nicobar Islands). The bribe was allegedly reduced to Rs.15,000/- after negotiations.

It was further claimed that the Superintendent instructed the Complainant to pay the payment through the Inspector, CGST, Port Blair. The CBI set up a trap for Inspector Shri Manoj Kumar, CGST, who was caught receiving a bribe of Rs.5000/- from the complainant. Shri Atanu Kumar Das, the Superintendent, was also apprehended.

Both the accused’s homes were searched, resulting in the recovery of Rs.9.33 lakh (approximately) in cash and damning papers.

Both of the apprehended suspects were taken to the Competent Court in Port Blair and remanded in custody.
