CBI Caught GST Joint Commissioner & Chartered Accountant over alleged bribery of Rs 4 lakh The Central Bureau of Investigation [CBI] on March 03, 2022 caught a joint commissioner of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) in Nagpur and a chartered accountant over alleged bribery of Rs 4 lakh, officials said.

The central probe agency apprehended Joint Commissioner Mukul Patil and Chartered Accountant Hemant Rajandekar while they were allegedly receiving bribe from a businessman to favorably settle his company’s service tax liability, officials said.

The businessman had approached the CBI with a complaint and the agency laid a trap and caught the accused while demanding and accepting the negotiated bribe amount of Rs 4,00,000 from the complainant, CBI spokesperson RC Joshi said. Shri Mukul Patil Joint Commissioner CGST Nagpur-2 had issued a Show Cause Notice pertaining to service tax liability in the name of the Complainant . The accused person has demanded a bribe amount of Rs. 450000 to get the service tax liability case disposed off by corrupt & illegal means. Both the accused persons have been caught red handed while demanding and accepting the negotiated bribe amount of Rs. 4 00.000/- against the demanded bribe amount of Rs. 450000/- from the complainant. The searches are being conducted at the office of the CA and the office o& residential premises of accused public servant. Searches were being conducted at the premises of the accused, he said.
