A Ghaziabad CBI court on October 23, 2026, sentenced former Sub Post Master Ved Prakash Pandey to three years imprisonment and imposed a fine of Rs 25,000 in a case of misappropriation of postal funds worth Rs 15.27 lakh. Pandey was posted at the Beg Muzaffar Khan Post Office in Agra, Uttar Pradesh, at the time of the offence.

According to the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI), 51 depositors had opened Monthly Income Scheme (MIS) and Time Deposit Scheme (TDS) accounts at the post office. They deposited their initial amounts with Pandey, who issued passbooks bearing the account numbers and recorded the deposits in them under his signature.

But the CBI probe found that Pandey had only recorded the deposits in the passbooks and ledgers and not in transaction lists, daily account summaries and other official records. These records were used for reporting and reconciliation of daily deposits and withdrawals with the Head Office .

The CBI said Pandey had dishonestly misappropriated Rs 15.27 lakh, causing a financial loss to the postal department and wrongful gain of an equivalent amount to himself.
