CBI Court sentences Ex-IRS officer and his wife to 3 Years of Imprisonment along with a fine of Rs.2 lakh in Disproportionate Assets case
In a disproportionate assets case, the Hon’ble Prl. Spl. Judge Court for CBI Cases in Visakhapatnam sentenced two accused, including Sri Rayabharapu Venkata Lakshmi (RVL) Narasimha Rao, then Assistant Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs (Retd. IRS: 2007), Kakinada, East Godavari District, Andhra Pradesh, and his wife Smt. Rayabharapu Gowri Ratnam, to three years in prison and a total fine of Rs.2 lakh.
The CBI registered the instant case against the defendants. It was alleged that during the check period from 01.07.2007 to 04.08.2011, the accused Sri R.V.L. Narasimha Rao, IRS, while working as a public servant with the Department of Customs, was in possession of movable and immovable properties in his name and in the name of his wife, to the tune of approximately Rs.31.20 lakh (percentage of DA: 71.81%), which he could not satisfactorily account for. Smt. R. Gowri Ratnam, wife of Sri R.V.L. Narasimha Rao, aided the commission of the offence by allowing her husband to acquire assets in her name that exceeded her financial resources.
The Hon’ble Spl. Judge also directed the CBI to begin necessary proceedings for confiscation of the properties equivalent to the disproportionate assets of Rs.27.57 lakh (approx.).
