CBI recovers Rs.1.57 crore Cash, 17 kg Gold from Former Indian Railway Official The Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) conducted searches as part of an ongoing investigation into a case against Prmod Kumar Jaina, then-Principal Chief Operation Manager, East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar, for possession of allegedly disproportionate assets, and seized a large haul. A Senior Official Stated, "A cash amount of Rs. 1.57 crore (approx.); Postal saving instruments/Bank FDs of Rs. 3.33 crore (approx.); Bank balance of Rs. 1.51 crore (approx.); Mutual Fund of Rs. 47.75 lakh (approx.); gold bars, gold biscuits/coins & gold jewellery of 17 kg (value of approximately Rs. 9.5 crore) and documents related to immovable properties were found from the Bank locker/premises of accused and others including family members/relatives etc." The CBI filed a case on 03.01.2023 against then-Principal Chief Operation Manager (IRTS officer), East Coast Railway, Bhubaneswar, alleging that he and his family members possessed disproportionate assets worth Rs. 1.92 crore (approx.) from 01.04.2005 to 31.03.2020. Searches were carried out in a number of locations, including Bhubaneswar, Jagatsinghpur (both in Odisha), and Kolkata. During searches, three locker keys in the name of the accused's wife and five locker keys whose owners' names were not readily available were discovered. As a result, after much effort, the names of the locker owners, as well as the locker numbers and bank branches, were discovered. The first seven lockers have been used, and the eighth is currently in use. Investigation is continuing.
