CBI arrested former WAPCOS Chairman and Managing Director Rajinder Kumar Gupta and his son Gaurav after discovering over Rs 38 crore in cash from their premises in one of the agency's largest cash seizures, officials said Wednesday. WAPCOS, formerly known as Water and Power Consultancy Services (India) Limited, is a government-owned central public sector business that reports to the Ministry of Jal Shakti. The agency launched its investigation on Tuesday after charging Gupta, his wife Reema Singal, son Gaurav Singal, and daughter-in-law Komal Singal with accumulating unlawful riches from April 1, 2011, to March 31, 2019. Following the FIR, CBI teams scoured 19 locations in Delhi, Gurugram, Chandigarh, Sonipat, and Ghaziabad in a coordinated search that resulted in the discovery of the astonishing sum. The CBI confiscated Rs.20 crore in cash during its searches on Tuesday, which had grown to more than Rs.38 crore by Wednesday, according to a CBI spokesperson. In addition to cash, a substantial amount of jewellery, precious things, and property documents were taken, according to the Spokesperson. According to the official, the former bureaucrat and his family were also accused of establishing a private advisory business in Delhi following his departure from government. The accused's claimed immovable properties include flats, commercial buildings, and a farmhouseouse distributed across Delhi, Gurugram, Panchkula, Sonipat, and Chandigarh, he said.
