CBIC has introduced electronic processing of Bill of Entry/Shipment Bill pertaining to gems and jewellery/samples/prototypes through personal carriage by air passengers from 01.05.2025 onwards at specified airports.

CBIC to introduce Electronic Processing of Import/Export by Air Passengers from 1st May 2025 The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC), Department of Revenue under Ministry of Finance, has introduced electronic processing of Bill of Entry/Shipment Bill pertaining to gems and jewellery/samples/prototypes through personal carriage by air passengers from 01.05.2025 onwards at specified airports. Personal carriage exports and imports are subject to the provisions of the Foreign Trade Policy (FTP) 2023 and the Handbook of Procedures (HBP) 2023. Personal carriage facilities will be available for exporting gems and jewellery to the nine airports (Delhi, Mumbai, Kolkata, Chennai, Kochi, Coimbatore, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Jaipur) listed in paragraph 4.87 of the HBP, as well as for importing gems and jewellery to the seven airports listed in paragraph 4.88 of the HBP. Regarding machinery samples and prototypes, the facility will initially be offered at the airports in Bengaluru, Chennai, Delhi, and Mumbai. The harmonised procedure and electronic processing will promote ease of doing business for such a mode of transaction, especially for gems and jewellery and high-end manufacturing.
