CBSE Introduces Alternative Assessment Scheme For Class XII Students Due To West Asian Tensions

The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE), under the Ministry of Education, has issued an official notification, dated March 27, 2026, regarding the assessment scheme of Class XII, especially for those students who could not attend their board exams due to exam disruption in West Asian countries. As per the notification:

The exams of Class XII that were scheduled between 16.03.2026 and 10.04.2026 have now been cancelled.

(b) The exams, which were earlier postponed through the circulars of 01.03.2026, 03.03.2026, 05.03.2026, 07.03.2026 and 09.03.2026, will also be considered cancelled now.

The board has made a special rule for preparing the results of students, which is called the Alternative Assessment Policy. According to this, the results of different students will be decided according to their situation.

First of all, students who have appeared for all their registered subjects’ exams will have their results declared in a normal manner. Their result will be based on their performance in the exams.

Secondly, for the students who have registered in 01 subject under the compartment category for the year 2025 or earlier, if they have given that exam, then their result will be based on the basis of their exam performance. But if somehow the exam is not conducted, then they will be given one more chance to appear in the supplementary exam scheduled to be held in July 2026.

Thirdly, for students whose 1, 2,3, 4, 5, and 6 examinations are left, their marks will be calculated based on theory and practical/internal assessment. Assessment in the board will be based on the assessment done by the schools. Schools conduct quarterly, half-yearly and pre-board exams throughout the year.

Apart from this, schools have been directed to upload the marks of students on the CBSE portal between 6 April 2026 and 13 April 2026. After uploading the marks once, no changes will be allowed. Schools have also been asked to maintain proper records so that future verification can be done.
