CBSE Rejects Reports Regarding the Possibility of Bi-Annual Board Exams
On 1st July 2024, the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) said that it had not notified the Ministry of Education (MoE) that it would not be able to hold the biannual board exams.
The CBSE denied a media report that stated the organisation had informed the education ministry that the existing academic schedule would not allow for the twice-yearly administration of board exams for classes 10 and 12.
“This relates to the news story that the Hindustan Times published. A few other news outlets have reported on a related story as well.” The news item’s imputation of CBSE’s opinions on the subject matter is refuted. “It is completely false and unsupported by any correspondence exchanged between the ministry and CBSE,” the CBSE stated on X, the previous Twitter platform.
This is in reference to the news article covered in Hindustan Times – Delhi edition dated 30/06/2024 titled- `Cannot conduct Board Exams twice a year :CBSE’ (Fareeha Iftikhar) . A few other news media have also covered similar news story.

Earlier, during a seminar on the National Curriculum Framework 2023 on 25th June at Vigyan Bhawan in New Delhi, a few media sites reported that CBSE had informed the Ministry of Education that conducting board exams twice a year for classes 10 and 12 is impossible.
According to media sources, the board reasoned that the current system and policies make it impossible to administer the CBSE board exams in two shifts because CBSE schools are spread throughout the world.
The National Curriculum Framework (NCF) from the previous year recommended that biannual tests give students more opportunities to do well and score highly. The NCF also suggested that the board exams be held twice a year to reduce the workload and stress on the students.
