Central Government Appoints Authorities Under the Code on Wages, 2019
The Ministry of Labour and Employment recently shared a notification on May 12, 2026, regarding the appointment of authorities under the Code on Wages, 2019.
The Central Government, using the powers given under Section 7(2) of the Code on Wages, 2019, has cancelled and replaced earlier notifications issued on 19th January 2017 by the Ministry of Labour and Employment. However, any actions already taken under the old notifications will continue to remain valid.
Under this new notification, the Central Government has appointed certain officers as authorities for specific areas mentioned in the table. These officers will be responsible for calculating the cost-of-living allowance and the cash value of concessions provided on essential commodities supplied at lower rates to employees.
The calculations will be made from time to time according to the directions and guidelines issued by the Central Government.
