Central Govt. Exempts Motor Car for Use of State Governors from Customs Duty The Central Government has exempted levy of any customs duty on the import of motor car for the use of the Governor of the State via issuing Notification. The Notification Stated, "In exercise of the powers conferred by sub-section (1) of section 25 of the Customs Act, 1962 (52 of 1962), the Central Government, on being satisfied that it is necessary in the public interest so to do hereby exempts the goods, falling within any Chapter of the First Schedule to the Customs Tariff Act, 1975 (51 of 1975) and description specified in column (2) of the Table below, from the whole of the duty of customs leviable thereon as per the rates specified in the First Schedule to the said Customs Tariff Act,1975, if imported or purchased out of bond by the Governor of any State on appointment or during their tenure in the office."
