CGST Officers Arrested by Anti-Corruption Bureau for accepting Bribe of Rs. 4 Lakh

According to an official statement, the Rajasthan Anti-Corruption Bureau apprehended a superintendent and an inspector of Central Goods and Services Tax (CGST) in Bharatpur district on Tuesday with bribe money worth Rs 4 lakh.

They accepted the money from a trader in exchange for not pursuing the dealer for unpaid CGST.

According to ACB Director General Bhagwan Lal Soni, a complaint was received saying that CGST Superintendent, Alwar, Dhanraj Kumawat threatened to file a case against a person and sought a bribe of Rs 10 lakh.

B L Soni, director general of the ACB also stated that, this was a one-of-a-kind trap because the evidence contained CCTV footage against both the apprehended suspects.

According to Statements:

“On Tuesday, the trader called our unit to report that two officers, Dhanraj Kumawat, the superintendent, and Vinay Yadav, the inspector, both from the CGST in Alwar, barged into his office. Both policemen wanted a bribe of Rs 10 lakh and threatened to implicate him in a case in which he would have to pay additional CGST if the bribe was not paid. We asked the trader to hold them for a bit, and he informed us that his office had CCTV installed,” Soni continued.

Following the negotiations, the trader decided to pay a bribe of Rs 4 lakh. “The dealer informed us that both officers went with Rs 4 lakh in bribe money in a car from Bharatpur to Alwar.” Our investigators searched the vehicle with the help of four reliable witnesses and discovered Rs 4 lakh. Both were arrested after failing to provide sufficient answers regarding the money,” Soni stated.

The ACB squad stopped the vehicle and began searching it. A case has been filed against them under relevant sections of the Prevention of Corruption Act. “We will conduct searches at their office and residence on Wednesday,” Soni added. The situation was being investigated further.
