Chartered Accountant arrested seeking Bribe in Kerala during Bank Audit The Vigilance and Anti-Corruption Bureau (VACB) announced on Sunday that it had arrested a chartered accountant connected to a nationalized bank for taking a bribe. A Sudhakaran was apprehended on Saturday while taking Rs 50,000 from a complainant at his home in Chinnakada, Kollam, while working as a concurrent auditor at the Canara bank's Mavelikara branch. The complainant, a businessman from Kochi who operates an educational consulting company throughout Kerala, was required to pay a total of Rs 6 lakh by Sudhakaran, according to VACB officials. Sudhakaran allegedly warned the complainant, who had bank loan accounts, that some of the documents he had filed were "inappropriate" and could cause issues, such as his accounts being labeled as non-performing assets (NPA). The bribe was purportedly sought by Sudhakaran in return for not filing an unfavorable audit report. He first requested a Rs 10,000 advance, which the complainant paid via Google Pay. The complainant went to the VACB when Sudhakaran insisted on getting the remaining sum in person. According to VACB police, Sudhakaran was detained while taking Rs 50,000 at his residence after a trap was set. According to VACB officers, Sudhakaran is compensated by Canara Bank and is a listed concurrent auditor with the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). According to early findings, this may not be the first time the accused has been involved in bribery, VACB SP Sasidharan S told reporters. He noted that a thorough probe is presently in progress.
