The Chartered Accountants’ Day is celebrated on July 1 to celebrate the establishment of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI). ICAI is the official body that trains and certifies Chartered Accountants (CAs) in India. Therefore, the day is celebrated to appreciate the hard work and role of CAs in keeping the economy and businesses running smoothly. But do you know who was the first Chartered Accountant of India?

The first Chartered Accountant in India was Shri Gopaldas Padamsey Kapadia. He was the first president of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India (ICAI) and served in ICAI for three years. He was also awarded the first membership certificate by ICAI on June 9, 1950.
