Customs Registers case of illegal Import of Foreign-Origin Cigarettes worth over Rs. 55 lakh Based on an intelligence, the officers of Customs (Preventive) Commissionerate Delhi searched and recovered 5,48,800 lakh cigarette sticks of foreign origin worth around Rs. 55.23 lakh, yesterday. Several brands of cigarettes, including Platinum Seven, Davidoff, Dunhill, and Mond, have been recovered. The seized foreign-origin cigarettes do not include obligatory visual health warnings on the packages. It is alleged that these cigarettes were imported illegally/smuggled into the nation, dodging Customs Duty and also violating the 'Cigarettes and Other Tobacco Products (Packaging and Labelling) Amendment Rules, 2022' before being sold in the local market. During the course of the investigation, one of the accused was detained under Section 104 of the Customs Act of 1962 and later freed on bail. An investigation into the situation is now underway.
