Cyber Thugs build fake D-Mart and Big Basket websites to defraud people; arrested in Noida

The Noida Police said that they had arrested six members of a cyber gang that reportedly made fake D-Mart, Big Basket, and Big Bazaar websites and duped people out of crores of rupees.

According to a senior official, the thugs used these websites to offer goods at discounted or low prices in order to entice gullible customers, then during payment they obtained information about their credit/debit cards and used the details to fraudulently withdraw money from their bank accounts.

“On April 3, the cyber helpline team of Gautam Buddh Nagar police arrested six members of the gang that created fraudulent websites in the name of companies like Big Bazaar, D-Mart, and Big Basket and duped people out of crores of rupees,” said Rajeev Dixit, Additional DCP (Central Noida).

The members of this gang are from Ghaziabad and Gautam Buddh Nagar, according to Dixit, who added that the individuals duped by them are from all over the country, not just the Delhi NCR area.

According to the authorities, those detained are Vineet Kumar, Dhruv Solanki, Gaurav Talan, Salman Khan, Santosh Maurya, and Manoj Maurya.

As per to the officers, they seized three laptop computers, four mobile phones, two debit cards, Rs.11,700 in cash, and a Hyundai i10 car from the gang.

According to the police, a FIR has been filed against the accused at the Bisrakh police station under Indian Penal Code sections 420 (cheating), 406 (criminal breach of trust), and pertinent provisions of the Information Technology Act.
