Delhi Govt proposes zero road tax and registration fees on all EV’s priced upto Rs 30L

Delhi government in draft Delhi Electric Vehicle (EV) Policy 2026 has proposed 100% exemption from road tax and registration fees on all electric cars priced upto Rs. 30 Lakhs till 31.03.2030.

The main goals of this new EV policy are:

  • Reducing pollution in Delhi
  • Encouraging more and more people to adopt electric vehicles
  •  Increasing charging infrastructure
  •  Battery recycling and strengthening EV systems

The Delhi government says that pollution caused by vehicles affects the city’s air the most. Two-wheelers in particular (about 67%) contribute significantly to this problem. This policy is inspired by Article 21 of the Constitution, which also includes the right to clean air. Also, this policy has been prepared on the basis of the instructions of the Supreme Court and laws like the Environment Protection Act 1986 and the Motor Vehicle Act 1988.

Purchase Incentive will also be provided to electronic Two-wheelers, Auto-Rickshaw and E-Trucks, which are as follows:

Electric Two-Wheelers (Scooters/Bikes)

YearIncentive
Year 1Rs 10,000 per kWh (maximum Rs 30,000)
Year 2Rs 6,600 per kWh (maximum Rs 20,000)
Year 3RS 3,300 per kWh (maximum Rs 10,000)

Electric Auto (3-Wheeler)

Electric Goods Vehicles (4-Wheeler / N1 Category)

YearIncentive

Year 2Rs 75,000
Year 3Rs 50,000

All subsidies will be provided through Direct Benefit Transfer (DBT). Only those people whose vehicle is registered in Delhi. An application for a subsidy will have to be made through the system prescribed by the Transport Department.

This policy is currently in the draft stage. It will be finalised after public suggestions!  It is important to submit suggestions on time; otherwise, they will not be accepted. This new EV policy of the Delhi government is a big step towards reducing pollution and promoting electric vehicles in the city. It clearly shows that the government wants to give more benefits to those who adopt EVs early. Now everyone’s eyes are on what changes are made in the final policy after the suggestions from the public.

The policy is given below for referance:
