Delhi GST Department Seizes 50 Tonnes of Copper, Aluminium Consignment From Bengaluru-Delhi Train:

The Delhi GST Department, in collaboration with railway authorities, has confiscated around 50 tons of copper and copper scrap and almost two tons of aluminum ingots that were being transported without proper documentation.

The move came after GST officials received information about suspected illegal movement of the metals. The officials then coordinated with railroad authorities to keep a watch on parcel cargo express train number 00629 coming from Yeshwanthpur Railroad Station in Bengaluru toward Delhi.

After the train entered Delhi, GST officials along with railway authorities conducted surprise inspection of three wagons. During the inspection they found large quantities of copper, copper scrap and aluminum ingots.

The people present at the spot could not show valid e-way bills, tax invoices or other documents required for transporting the goods. The GST Department then seized the entire consignment.

The copper and copper scrap are estimated to be worth around Rs 6 crore, while the aluminium ingots are valued at about Rs 4 lakh. Officials are now weighing and checking the material to determine its exact quantity and value.

The department suspects that the movement of such a large quantity of metals without proper documents could be linked to a bigger tax evasion network. Officials are investigating who sent the goods from Karnataka and who was supposed to receive them in Delhi.

Further investigation is underway to identify others who may be involved. The authorities said legal action will be taken under the relevant provisions of the GST Act.
