Delhi Police have arrested three people, including a former MTS employee of the Income Tax Department, in connection with a fake job scam. These people have cheated about six to seven job seekers of Rs 10 lakh by making false promises of giving government jobs through the MTS letter of appointment.

The entire fraud came to light when a case was registered at the Hauz Qazi Police Station on May 18, 2026. A person living in Ajmeri Gate had accused Naveen Prakash, Deepak Tiwari, and Rohit Chauhan of defrauding him of Rs 2.03 lakh under the pretext of offering him an MTS job in the Income Tax department.

As per the police, the accused approached the victim in December 2025. One of them posed as an Income Tax Department official and assured him of a job in the government sector. Once he gained his confidence, they demanded Rs 5,000 in cash from him along with the transfer of Rs 1.98 lakh from his provident fund.

To appear legitimate, the accused used counterfeit forms from the Income Tax Department, conducted fake interviews and orientation at the Civic Centre premises, and made a claim that appointment letters and ID cards were being processed. No appointment letter or ID card was issued by anyone.

Following various surveillance and raid operations, Rohit Chauhan, Chirag Aggarwal, and Tarun Goswami, who are accused of operating under false identities, were arrested by the police. In the course of the probe, the police also proceeded against Pawan Dutt Sharma, who is a former MTS employee of the Income Tax department.

According to the police, Chirag Aggarwal was an employee of the Income Tax Department as an MTS employee for almost 15 years, and he used his knowledge to conduct the fraudulent recruitment process. In the course of the investigation, four mobile phones, fabricated verification forms, and victims' identity cards were seized by the police.

It is reported that during the interrogation of the accused, he confessed that he used social networking sites to lure unemployed young boys with job offers from the government. It is believed that he extorted Rs 1 lakh to Rs 2 lakh from each person.

The police are now investigating whether any serving Income Tax Department officials were involved, tracing the alleged mastermind, and identifying more victims. The investigation is ongoing.
