Delhi Police arrested three accused for running a fake Income Tax MTS recruitment scam that duped job seekers of nearly Rs 10 lakh.
Three Held in Fake Income Tax Job Scam

Delhi Police have arrested three people for allegedly running a fake government job scam. They promised unemployed people jobs as Multi-Tasking Staff (MTS) in the Income Tax Department and took money from them. One of the arrested men is a former MTS employee of the Income Tax Department. Police believe the gang cheated at least six or seven people and collected around Rs 10 lakh.
The arrested accused are Rohit Chauhan (37), a freelance placement agent; Chirag Aggarwal (41), a former MTS employee of the Income Tax Department at the Civic Centre; and Tarun Goswami (37), a freelance placement agent and property dealer. Another former MTS employee, Pawan Dutt Sharma (38), has also been questioned and bound down in the case. Police are searching for other accused, including the alleged mastermind.
The case came to light after a resident of Ajmeri Gate filed a complaint at Hauz Qazi Police Station on May 18. He said that in December 2024, Chirag Aggarwal introduced himself as an employee of the Income Tax Department and promised to help him get an MTS job. Later, he was introduced to Rohit Chauhan who took care of the so-called recruitment process and took money from him.
The complainant relied on their assurances and made online payments and paid cash as well transferring his entire savings of the provident fund. He lost Rs 2.03 lakh in all. The accused used forged verification forms of the Income Tax Department to give a genuine look to the recruitment process. They took the money, then went silent and could not be tracked down by March 2025.
During the investigation, police examined bank account details and technical evidence. Rohit Chauhan was arrested from Rohini on July 3. Based on further investigation, Chirag Aggarwal and Tarun Goswami were also arrested.
According to the police, the gang targeted unemployed youth through social media advertisements claiming that there were vacancies in the Income Tax Department. They charged each victim between Rs 1 lakh and Rs 2 lakh and asked them to submit their educational documents.
To convince the victims that the recruitment was real, the accused conducted fake interviews and orientation sessions inside the Income Tax Department offices and in the parking area at the Civic Centre. They also handed over fake verification forms to the victims and told them that their official identity cards were being prepared. But there was no provision for issuing appointment letters or identity cards of the government.
