DGFT amends Import Policy Condition 6 of Pet Coke
The Directorate General Foreign Trade (DGFT) has issued an amendment in the Import Policy Condition 6 (Pet Coke) under Chapter 27 of Schedule –I (Import Policy) of ITC (HS) 2022, via issuing Notification.
The Notification Stated, "In exercise of powers conferred by Section 3 and Section 5 of Foreign Trade (Development &Regulation) Act, 1992, read with paragraph 1.02 and 2.01 of the Foreign Trade Policy, 2023, as amended from time to time, the Central Government hereby amends the Policy Condition 6 of Chapter 27 of Schedule -I (Import Policy) ·of ITC (HS) 2022."
Effect of the Notification:
Import of pet coke for fuel purpose is 'Prohibited'. However, Policy Condition 6 of Chapter 27 of Schedule-I (Import Policy) of ITC (HS) 2022 has been amended to allow import of Needle Pet Coke for making graphite anode material for Li-Ion battery as feedstock/raw material, and Low Sulphur Pet Coke by integrated steel plants only for blending with the coking coal in recovery type coke ovens equipped with desulphurisation plant, subject to terms and conditions set out by MOEF & CC.
