Diamond Trader looted by man posing as Income Tax Officer
A diamond seller was defrauded of Rs.8 crore in cash by a man acting as an ‘income tax officer‘ in the Katargam region on Tuesday evening. The complainant returned from the safe vault after retrieving cash from his firm’s locker.
According to the police, a person who posed as the ‘IT man’ named Ramkumar Yadav stopped the car and took four persons of the firm as hostage at gunpoint.
According to sources, after getting into the car from Ashram Road, the man urged the driver to continue driving, and after a few minutes, he asked two of the four passengers to exit the car. After a few more km, he requested the other two employees to exit the car near the Ved-Variyav bridge.
He then fled with the car. At the time of the event, all four firm employees had come to get cash. Police have yet to confirm who owned the firm or the cash.
Aside from Katargam police and the Crime Branch, senior police officers rushed to the scene following the incident. Police have begun searching CCTV footage to locate the vehicle. A CCTV camera captured the accused wearing a headgear and holding a bag.
An official stated, “We are investigating the matter from all possible aspects. We are investigating the accused’s method of operation as well as how one person could abduct four people in their car. We are also looking into whether someone from the diamond firm was engaged in the incident or not.”
