DRI recovers heroin worth Rs. 53 crore at Mumbai Airport; One Arrested
Surveillance was conducted at the CSMI Airport in Mumbai by a team of officials from the Directorate of Revenue Intelligence (DRI), Mumbai Zonal Unit, based on intelligence that a narcotic substance was being smuggled into India by a passenger travelling from Addis Abeba to Mumbai.
The suspected passenger was apprehended by a team of DRI officials on the morning of March 7th, and his luggage was thoroughly searched. That resulted in the seizure of 7.6 kg of off-white substance, which was cleverly disguised in artificial cavities formed inside the suspect's trolley bag. The presence of heroin was detected in the powder. The unlawful international market value of the contraband is estimated to be over 53 crore.
The passenger was put under arrest and produced before the CMM Court which remanded the accused to DRI custody till the 10th of March. Further investigation in the instant case is under progress.
