EPFO Launches New ECR System to Simplify Employer Compliance
The Employees' Provident Fund Organisation (EPFO) has introduced a new electronic challan-cum-return (ECR) system, the new system is launched to make it simpler and smoother for employers to file their returns on the EPFO employer portal. New system will be applicable from September 2025 wage month.
However, considering the request from a number of employers in adapting to adjust to the new system and its features, EPFO has extended the deadline for filing ECR for September 2025 to October 22, 2025.
Employees' Provident Fund Organisation conducted meetings at central level with major industry bodies such as the Federation of Indian Chambers of Commerce and Industry (FICCI), the PHD Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PHDCCI), and the Employer Federation of India (EFI) to help employers understand and use the new ECR system better. These meetings focused on explaining the benefits of the new system, such as:
- More accurate data
- Step-by-step return validation
- Easier and better compliance
