GST (Goods and Services Tax) inspectors were conducting raid on a tobacco business, a city-based tobacco seller who had cardiac problems. The GST team then transported the dealer to the hospital where he underwent angioplasty.

When reached, GST Joint Commissioner G Shreekanth acknowledged the occurrence and stated it occurred a few days ago amid the ongoing raids against defaulters and those claiming false GST input tax credits, costing the government money.

Our officers acted with forethought and hurried the dealer to the hospital. Doctors examined the trader and discovered several obstructions. According to the physicians’ recommendations, the merchant underwent angioplasty, and he is now OK, according to Shreekanth, an IAS officer from the 2009 batch.

An official with knowledge of the situation claimed that the dealer was specifically accused of conducting the majority of his transactions without entering them into the books.

“A flying squad invaded his store and caught him in the act. The trader, who is in his 60s, began to perspire and felt anxious while the squad members were looking for unauthorized transactions. Later, he indicated his chest and moaned in anguish. The squad members drove him to the hospital right away in the squad car,” according to the official.

He continued by saying that after leaving, the team went back to the store to finish the raid and even fined the merchant for failing to pay the GST. Another member of the squad claimed, “After the incident, the trader’s son not only thanked the GST authorities but also has promised to pay the GST along with the issued fine.”
