E-invoicing Portal updates list of GSTNs generating IRN
The Goods and Services Tax E-invoice System has released the updated list of GSTNs that generates Invoice Reference Number (IRN).
IRN, known as Invoice Reference Number, is a unique number allotted by the government to categorize and identify every valid e-invoice generated in India, initially implemented on 1st October 2020.
An invoice reference number of 64 characters must be generated for each document—such as an invoice, debit note, or credit note—that is uploaded using the invoice registration portal. Every invoice that a GSTIN raises within the GST system during the financial year will have a unique number.
Additionally, the IRN needs to be included on every invoice that the supplier sends to the recipient. Using the invoice reference number, tax officers can use both an offline app and the central site to confirm the legitimacy of the transaction. As a result, they will be able to examine the invoice even in places without internet connectivity.
The purpose of the e-invoicing system is to establish uniformity for all electronically generated invoices.
